Many a traveller’s journey to seeing the Statue of Liberty starts here, by boarding this ferry. The ferry, which departs from the Battery Park Ferry Terminal, operates daily. It is not the only public transport vehicle you can get on here, though. Various other sightseeing boats and water taxis stop at the port, too, heading to various other places in New York.
The Ferry only opened in 2009 to replace an older terminal from the 1990s. It is the only place to board the Ellis Island boat in New York, the second dock is located in New Jersey. Both are operated by Statue Cruises company.
Before visiting, keep in mind that it may be closed due to weather. Consult the official website and weather reports before taking the trip. Also, remember not to book tickets last minute. Due to the popularity of the Statue, they are often sold out as early as 3 months ahead of time.
The ferry to the island runs daily from 8:30 am to 4 pm in summer (5 pm in winter). The final departure from Ellis Island is at 7 pm in summer (6 pm in winter).
Departure times are subject to change. For further information, please visit the official website.
Ellis Island begins closing 30 minutes prior to the final departure.
Closed on Dec 25.
