Originally constructed in 1703 as a private home known as Buckingham House, the building was acquired by King George III in 1761. It underwent significant expansions led by architects William Winde, John Nash, and Edward Blore before becoming the official royal residence in 1837 upon the accession of Queen Victoria. The structure is a Grade I Listed Building featuring neoclassical and Georgian architectural styles.
The palace serves as the principal workplace of the British monarch and a focal point for state, ceremonial, and official occasions. The State Rooms house numerous treasures from the Royal Collection, including an extensive array of paintings, sculptures, and fine furniture. The grounds include the largest private garden in London.
The State Rooms are accessible to the public during the summer months, where multimedia tours are available. These tours provide views of the palace gardens and the various exhibitions held within. The site is also the location for the Changing the Guard ceremony and serves as a primary venue for national celebrations and royal hospitality.
