This ZOO with its botanical garden has a really impressive history dating back to the 19th century. It is one of the oldest zoos in the world, as well as the oldest zoopark in Hungary.
Its history is not all that is impressive about it. The zoo also boasts a staggering area of over 18 hectares of land and it is home to more than a thousand different animal species (including a rare Komodo dragon and wombat).
If you can, reserve at least half a day for its visit because you are going to want to take your time here. This should also allow you to check out the wonderful Art Noveau buildings in the area, designed by Kornél Neuschloss and Károly Kós.
The zoo is located right in the heart of the city, so you should have no problems reaching it whatever mode of transport you choose. Still, the easiest way to get here is by metro - via line number 1.
