A truly haunting sight - underground tunnels decorated with the remains of around six million people. The catacombs were established in the second half of the 18th century when there was not enough space in the cemeteries and by the end of the 19th century, the complex was already a popular tourist attraction.
Nowadays, visitor numbers are restricted to 200 at any time, therefore admission may be delayed for a short time during busy periods. There are no cloakroom facilities available.
The tour takes about 45 minutes. It is not suitable for people with heart or respiratory problems. Audio guides are available in French, English, German and Spanish.
(Last admission at 7:30 pm)
Open during holidays on Jul 14, Aug 15, Nov 1 and 11.
