Praça do Comércio is a huge waterfront square, where the royal palace was located until the 1755 Great Earthquake. It is one of the most renowned squares in Lisbon and its location near the Tagus river makes it also one of the most beautiful places to stroll around.
The square is home to some important historical sights. One of its dominants is the Triumphal Arch, depicting allegorical figures of Glory, Genius and Bravery. The top of the arch can be accessed and it offers breathtaking views of the surrounding area. Also worth mentioning is a bronze statue of King Joseph I, installed in the center of the square.
