The beautifully restored Art Deco elevator belongs to the main sights of the city. Originally built as a rope-and-pulley elevator, it has been rebuilt many times and it was electrified in the beginning of the 19th century. The 72-meter tall tower connects Salvador's Lower Town with Upper Town and offers wonderful views.
