Famous Sultan Mehmed the Conqueror had this mosque built in the 15th century. He wanted to built the building as spectacular as Hagia Sophia and the legend says that he cut off the hands of the architect because the mosque wasn’t tall enough.
Even though the sultan wasn’t satisfied with the building, the crowds of tourists visiting the mosque every year would agree that the mosque is one of the architectural jewels of Istanbul.
The mosque is not accessible to tourists during prayer times.
