Florentine Abbey

Founded in 978 by Willa, Marquess of Tuscany, the abbey is among the city's oldest institutions and is the oldest monastery in Florence. It boasts several notable artworks by Filippino Lippi including the outstanding painting called Apparition of the Virgin to St Bernard, which is one of his most celebrated works. The church also contains the tomb of Willa's son, Hugh, Margrave of Tuscany.
