This forested hill provides the most beautiful views of Budapest. Overlooking the Danube River, it allows you to see both the heart of the city and its outskirts further away. It is a great spot for photo shoots, romantic walks and sightseeing.
It got its name from Saint Gerard who died by being thrown down from the hill. Today, it is a base for a well-known hotel, baths and the Citadella, a historical fort which provided shelter for military forces of Austria and the Soviet Union.
You can hike up the hill or consider taking one of the many hop-on-hop-off buses if you have any physical problems preventing you from hiking. Do not be afraid to go up there during the night and see the alluring Budapest lit up, but bring a flashlight, as some segments of the road do not have street lights.
