Grand Canyon

Local nameGrand Canyon
LocationGrand Canyon Village, Arizona, United States

This canyon barely needs introducing. Carved by the Colorado River and more than a mile deep, it is one of the landmarks of the United States as well as one of the most magnificent canyons in the world. It has been established as a U.S. National Park in 1919.

There are two main starting points from which you can begin your trip through the canyon: the south rim and the north rim. The south rim is the more popular of the two, open all year round at the average height of 7,000 feet in elevation. The north rim closes for winter and is placed higher, at 8,000 feet. It is also more difficult to reach.

There is no need to come by car, as the entire canyon can be explored via the free shuttle bus system. Due to the canyon's popularity, it may be a good idea to book your lodging in advance if you do not plan to come in winter when there is the smallest amount of visitors.
