The monument was constructed around 2560 BC as a tomb for the Pharaoh Khufu (also known as Cheops). Designed by the architect Hemiunu, it is the oldest and only largely intact member of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. This structure represents a peak of ancient Egyptian architecture, utilizing massive quantities of limestone and granite.
Originally reaching a height of 146.6 meters, the structure was the tallest man-made object on Earth for over 3,700 years. Its current height is 137.5 meters, and it covers an area of approximately 53,061 square meters. The structure is a smooth-sided pyramid and serves as a major tourist attraction.
The construction is noted for extreme geometric and geographic precision. Its four sides are accurately aligned with the cardinal points of the compass. Additionally, the ratio between the perimeter of the base and the height of the structure closely approximates the mathematical constant pi (π).
