Great Synagogue of Florence

Local nameTempio Maggiore Israelitico - Sinagoga
LocationFlorence, Italy

This large beautiful synagogue was built in 1882 upon the wish of a President of the Jewish Community, David Levi. The construction started after his death, on an estate he chose for the synagogue.

The synagogue was designed in Moorish style and with its extraordinary green dome, it resembles the Hagia Sophia in Istanbul. Its interior is decorated with frescoes by Giovanni Panti.
