The large complex of hospital buildings constructed between 1901 and 1930 is designed in Modernista style by the influential Catalan modernist architect Lluís Domènech i Montaner. The historical part of the complex is listed as a UNESCO site.
The world's largest Art Nouveau Site is a marvellous place to discover as you will learn about the development of the medical institution and about the construction of the building at the same time. The hospital's design included gardens surrounding the wards because it was believed that trees and flowers would help the patients recover sooner. That's also why the hospital is decorated with beautiful mosaics. Lectures, workshops, and concerts also take place here.
