Opened on February 17, 2003, this cultural institution is dedicated to the dissemination of 20th and 21st-century visual arts. It occupies the former Mercado de Mayoristas (Wholesale Market), a historic building designed by the architect Luis Gutiérrez Soto. The structure is recognized as a site of cultural interest and represents a significant example of rationalist architecture.
The museum houses an extensive collection of contemporary art and has served as a major exhibition space. The institution has recently undergone a transformation into the MUCAC.
