Also referred to as the Holocaust Memorial, this monument is dedicated to the memory of the Jewish people killed by the Nazis.
The memorial was finished in 2004, it consists of 2711 concrete “stelae” (slabs) of various sizes and was designed by Peter Eisenman. His vision was to create an impression of instability in a seemingly stable (yet machine-like and inhuman) system. However, the visitors usually say that the place reminds them of an abandoned cemetery.
The Information Centre, which is a part of the complex, tells the story of the Holocaust terrors and of the Final Solution. Here, you can also find millions of names of the Jewish people killed by the Nazis. The Centre also organizes free public tours of the memorial.
The nearest metro/bus station is Mohrenstraße, line U2.
