Pantheon

Local namePantheon
Location5th arrondissement of Paris, France

Originally built as a church, this 18th-century Neoclassical building now serves mainly as a mausoleum. It was inspired by the Roman Pantheon and it is located in the Quartier Latin which is historically connected with knowledge and education.

When inside, explore the canvas paintings that depict the life of Sainte-Geneviève (to whom the church was originally dedicated) and also the epic story of the origin of Christianity.

When visiting the crypt, you can see the final resting places of many important figures of French history including e.g. Jean Jacques Rousseau, Jean Paul Marat, Victor Hugo and Marie Curie.
