Plaça d'Espanya

Local namePlaça d'Espanya
Locationel Poble-sec, Barcelona, Spain

This square was built for the 1929 International Exhibition by Josep Amargós. It's located on a historically significant site - it's said that the square was used for public hangings in the past. Now it serves as a major transport hub.

The fountain at the center of the square was designed by Josep Maria Jujol, a partner of Antoni Gaudí. The Venetian Towers are two red-brick towers with observation decks, unfortunately not open to the public.

The square is surrounded by intriguing buildings such as Arenas de Barcelona, a former bullring built in the Moorish Revival style, or Palau Nacional which houses the National Art Museum of Catalonia.
