The recently refurbished Art Nouveau building of Prague's main train station has been in service since 1871. The station was originally named after the Emperor of Austria, Franz Joseph I.
If you have some time before the departure of your train, you should stop by at the renowned Fanta's Café. Its name comes from the architect of the station, Josef Fanta. Order a cup of coffee and admire the beautiful interior.
The station also witnessed the heroic deed of Nicholas Winton who saved hundreds of Jewish children during the Second World War. There is a statue on the first platform which commemorates this courageous man.
