Santa Maria Novella Train Station

Local nameStazione di Santa Maria Novella
LocationFlorence, Italy

One of the busiest railway stations in Italy serving as the main transport hub of Florence. It's served by regional as well as high-speed trains, and local buses stop right outside the station. 59 million people use the station every year.

The building is a great example of Italian modernism. It opened in 1935 and features a vast entrance hall with a glass and steel roof. The interior is decorated with sculptures by Italo Griselli and paintings by Ottone Rosai and Mario Romoli.

A statue and a memorial plaque honoring the Jews who were deported to Nazi concentration camps during WWII can be found near the platform number 16.
