This extensive complex was the primary summer residence of the Habsburg rulers. The Baroque ensemble was begun in 1695 and completed in 1743, with architectural contributions from Johann Bernhard Fischer von Erlach and Nicolò Pacassi. The grounds have served as a significant cultural attraction since the mid-1950s.
The gardens feature numerous architectural highlights and follies, most notably the Gloriette and the Neptunbrunnen fountain. The layout includes meticulously designed parterres, the Schönbrunner Berg, and various themed sections. Notable attractions within the park boundaries include a Maze, an Orangery, and a Children's Museum.
Reflecting over three centuries of evolving monarchical tastes, the complex serves as a significant monument of Baroque architecture. The site is open to the public and provides an authentic experience of imperial heritage through its historical landscape design, statues, and fountains.
