Sisto Bridge

The pedestrian Renaissance bridge was constructed in the second half of the 15th century. It crosses the river Tiber and connects Regola and Trastevere. The bridge bears the name of Pope Sixtus IV on whose order it was constructed.

For a long time (since 1877) the bridge was surrounded by a metal construction for pedestrians (at that time, the bridge was also used for the traffic) but in 1999 the construction was removed so that the bridge would look the way it was meant to. Since then it is a pedestrian bridge.

Walking across the bridge and admiring its beauty is possible during the day but also at night, when it is beautifully lit up. Also, Trastevere (where the bridge leads to) is among the most popular places in Rome as far as nightlife is concerned.
