Originally built between 1964 and 1965 as a protocol residence, the building was later enlarged and served as the private home of Nicolae Ceaușescu and his family from the 1970s until 1989. Throughout its history, the palace also functioned as a venue for hosting various foreign leaders.

Since 2016, the residence has been open to the public as a museum and exhibition space. It is preserved as a cultural heritage site, showcasing the architectural style and historical context of the former dictator's primary residence.
