St. Nicolas Basilica was built in the 14th century on a place of important trade roads that crossed in Trnava and that might be the reason why it was dedicated to St. Nicolas - patron of merchants.
There are two memorable artefacts housed in the basilica: historical organs and a painting of Virgin Mary. The historical organs were said to be admired by a famous organist from Notre Dame as well as a composer Nicolas Schneider-Trnavsky.
There is a legend connected to the painting of Virgin Mary that talks about the tragic events at the end of 17th century. People were allegedly warned by Virgin Mary's painting that started weeping bloody tears. To this day, the painting is worshipped by many believers who come and admire its holiness.
