This Gothic cathedral was constructed in 1191 as a Roman Catholic church and is actually the largest church in Ireland. In 1870, it was newly dedicated to the Church of Ireland. It is said that Saint Patrick used to baptise people here.
It's worth visiting for both the imposing exterior and the beautiful interior, which feels more like a museum thanks to the many artifacts on display here. The stained glass windows and the engraved headstones stand out the most. If you see a tree in the cathedral, it is the one that was brought there to commemorate the victims of WWI.
The most famous dean of St. Patrick's Cathedral was the author of Gulliver's Travels, Jonathan Swift. You can see some of his belongings here.
You can walk through the cathedral on your own using a free app, take a guided tour, or come to see one of the services. If you buy the ticket and keep it, you can come back on another day.
Opening times may vary due to special occasions - please, visit the official website for closures.
