Situated on a man-made islet on the Seine called Île aux Cygnes, the statue was erected to remind people of the fact that the American one has its origins in France.
The boat tours on the Seine almost always take you to this little island to marvel upon the miniature of the iconic statue. You can also walk there, access the island for free and get all the way to the statue.
After France gave the US "the real" Statue of Liberty in 1886, it took only 3 years before the Americans gifted France with this smaller version of the famous landmark. The gift was also a celebration of a hundredth anniversary of the French revolution.
