This 1200-meters-long street, lined with palace-like houses designed by some of the major architects of its day, is one of the most sought-after addresses in Stockholm. From the very start, the rent in these houses costs more than an average person can even earn. Separated from the sea and the boats at the pier only by a footway made from granite, this boulevard is a great place for a leisurely stroll. You can also enjoy a coffee in one of the cafés along the way.
The construction of the boulevard was ordered by the king. It was finished and opened in 1897, just in time for the Arts and Craft Exhibition held that year. Nearly every house at the street is an architectural point of interest, like the Bünsow House (house number 29–33) or the Von Rosen Palace at number 55.
