One of America's great natural wonders - a must see no matter the season. The protection of the park was established in 1864, and with its 1,200 square miles (over 3,000 square km) it belongs among the biggest parks in the US.
It's been permanently inhabited for nearly 3,000 years, but it started gaining popularity as a tourist attraction in the 1850s when the two first tourists here (Hutchings and Ayres) started publishing articles about the park.
Although it's best known for its numerous waterfalls (especially during snow melting season), the park is also filled with various rock formations, like the Half Dome, Middle Cathedral Rock, Mt. Dana, Mt. Gibbs and more.
It's advised to park your car and use the free shuttle bus around the park instead. There are designated areas for camping, you can bike, hike, play golf, ski, skate, swim, rock climb and anything else you can think of that can be done in nature. The park is a beautiful place full of natural wonders, which will create memories that will last a lifetime.
Bear in mind that if you drive here, your GPS device might not function ideally, since the park is large and not too well mapped. You can get here by car, or by a bus from various cities around the park in California.
The park is always open.
Entrance with a vehicle is charged.
