Historic Churches and Chapels

Agder’s landscape is dotted with a diverse collection of ecclesiastical architecture, from medieval stone structures to 19th-century wooden landmarks. This selection includes 12th-century Romanesque stone churches like Fjære and Øyestad, alongside notable wooden cruciform and octagonal designs by prominent architects. Many locations, such as Søgne and Bykle, are distinguished by their rare 17th-century Renaissance interiors and traditional Norwegian rosemaling, reflecting centuries of local craftsmanship and religious history.
