Koprivshtitsa Essentials

Koprivshtitsa preserves the architecture and history of the Bulgarian National Revival. This collection features 19th-century merchant homes characterized by ornate wood carvings and colorful facades, alongside monuments dedicated to the 1876 April Uprising. Key sites include the homes of revolutionary leaders Todor Kableshkov and Georgi Benkovski, the historic First Shot Bridge, and the 1817 Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Church.

Monument to Georgi Benkovksi

Stone statue on a hill overlooking the town, depicting the revolutionary leader on horseback. It commemorates his role in leading the 1876 April Uprising.

First Shot bridge

Also known as Kalachev Bridge, this is the historic site where the first shot of the 1876 April Uprising was fired against Ottoman rule.

Ksa-muzej "Todor Kableskov"

Built in 1845, this Plovdiv-style house was the home of the revolutionary who wrote the 'Bloody Letter' to initiate the April Uprising.

Ksa-muzej "Georgi Benkovski"

A wooden house built in 1831, featuring a collection of personal belongings and weapons used by the leader of the April Uprising.

Lutovata ksa

Built in 1854, this merchant home is known for its detailed mural paintings, wood-carved ceilings, and an exhibition of traditional felt carpets.

Oslekov House

Constructed between 1853 and 1856, this house features a unique facade supported by cedar columns and interiors decorated with murals of European cities.

Ksa muzej Dimco Debelanov

Birthplace of the Bulgarian lyric poet, this blue-painted house contains his personal library and original furniture within a landscaped garden.

Kashta-muzej "Luben i Petko Karavelovi"

A museum complex illustrating the life of revolutionary Lyuben Karavelov. It houses an original 1871 printing press used for revolutionary newspapers.

Mausoleum of Aprilians

A memorial monument and ossuary located in the central square, built to honor the locals who died during the 1876 April Uprising.

Crkva "Sveto Uspenie Bogorodicno"

Built in 1817, this Eastern Orthodox church features a bright blue exterior, 19th-century icons, and a wood-carved iconostasis.

Tombstone of Dimcho Debelyanov

Located in the churchyard, this sculpture by Ivan Lazarov depicts the poet's mother waiting for him on a threshold.
