Provincia del Noroeste

North Western Province Essentials

Sri Lanka’s North Western Province, or Wayamba, preserves the history of the 13th-century capital at Yapahuwa, famous for its steep ornamental staircase and rock-cut fortifications. The region is defined by its massive rock formations, such as Ethugala in Kurunegala, which hosts an 88-foot seated Buddha statue. From medieval military strongholds to ancient hilltop temples like Kondadeniya Rajamaha Viharaya, these sites provide a detailed look at the island's royal and spiritual evolution.
