Historic Monuments and Ruins

This collection features architectural landmarks across Montepulciano, ranging from the 14th-century Palazzo Comunale with its Michelozzo-designed facade to the symbolic Colonna del Marzocco. It includes the rural ruins of the Cappella dei Frati and the fortified Castelluccio, alongside a contemporary tribute to composer Bonaventura Somma. Colonna del Marzocco

A 16th-century marble column featuring the Marzocco lion, the heraldic symbol of Florence. It was erected in 1511 to replace the Sienese she-wolf, marking the town's shift in allegiance from Siena to the Florentine Republic.

Palazzo Comunale

14th-century Gothic town hall redesigned by Michelozzo in the 15th century. The travertine facade resembles the Palazzo Vecchio in Florence, and its accessible tower offers views across the Val d’Orcia and Val di Chiana.

Castelluccio

A medieval fortified complex situated on a hill between Montepulciano and Chianciano. Historically used for regional defense, the site features traditional stone masonry and overlooks the surrounding agricultural landscape.
