Mount Athos Essentials

Mount Athos is an autonomous monastic state on a restricted-access peninsula in northern Greece. As a UNESCO World Heritage site, it preserves twenty historic Eastern Orthodox monasteries, including the Serbian Hilandar and the foundational Great Lavra. The landscape is dominated by the 2,033-meter marble peak of Mount Athos.
