Mount Athos Essentials

Mount Athos is an autonomous monastic state on a restricted-access peninsula in northern Greece. As a UNESCO World Heritage site, it preserves twenty historic Eastern Orthodox monasteries, including the Serbian Hilandar and the foundational Great Lavra. The landscape is dominated by the 2,033-meter marble peak of Mount Athos. Access is primarily by ferry via Dafni Port, connecting visitors to ancient Byzantine architecture, monastic libraries containing thousands of manuscripts, and the spiritual traditions of the Holy Mountain.
