Portalegre’s landscape preserves a dense concentration of archaeological sites spanning from the Neolithic era to the Middle Ages. This collection features the Roman city of Ammaia and the expansive villa of Torre de Palma, alongside the Iberian Peninsula's tallest monolith, the Menir da Meada. Visitors can explore a series of well-preserved megalithic dolmens around Castelo de Vide and Póvoa e Meadas, as well as strategic medieval fortifications like the watchtower of Castelo de Ródão overlooking the Tagus River.
