Sokolov Essentials

Sokolov’s historical center is defined by its 13th-century castle, now a museum, and a series of religious landmarks including the Baroque Church of St. James the Greater and the Capuchin monastery with the Nostitz family crypt. The town’s layout incorporates 19th-century urban parks and the Hard lookout tower. Nearby, the archaeological ruins of St. Nicholas Church under Krudum mountain provide insight into the region's medieval history.

Sokolovský zámek

Renaissance castle rebuilt from a medieval fortress. It houses the District Museum, featuring exhibitions on regional mining, geology, and local history.

Husovy sady

Urban park established on the site of a former cemetery. It features a monument to Jan Hus and mature trees providing a green space in the town center.

rozhledna Hard

A 14-meter brick lookout tower built in 1907. It provides panoramic views of Sokolov, the Slavkov Forest, and the Ore Mountains.

Sv. Jakub Větší

Baroque parish church dating to the 17th century, built on earlier Gothic foundations. The interior features a significant high altar and historic organ.

Orthodox Holy Trinity church

Originally a Baroque cemetery chapel from 1719, this building now serves the Orthodox Church. It is situated near the location of the former town walls.

Zámecký park

Landscaped park surrounding the Sokolov Castle. It includes a 19th-century fountain, historical statues, and a collection of rare tree species.

Kostel sv. Mikuláše pod Krudumem

Archaeological site featuring the excavated foundations of a 13th-century Gothic church. It was rediscovered in the forest near Krudum mountain in 2002.
