Alexandria Essentials

Alexandria’s shoreline preserves layers of Greco-Roman, Coptic, and Islamic history. This collection spans from the subterranean Catacombs of Kom el Shoqafa and the Roman Theatre to the 15th-century Citadel of Qaitbay, situated where the Pharos Lighthouse once stood. Modern landmarks like the Bibliotheca Alexandrina sit alongside significant religious sites including the El Morsi Abou El Abbas Mosque and Saint Mark's Coptic Cathedral. The Corniche waterfront connects these archaeological parks with the Muhammad Ali Dynasty’s treasures at the Royal Jewelry Museum and the multi-era collections of the National Museum.
