Castles and Ruins

This collection features medieval fortifications and aristocratic residences across the volcanic landscape of Auvergne, primarily within the Cantal and Puy-de-Dôme departments. Highlights include the volcanic-rock fortress of Murol, the 15th-century keep of Anjony with its preserved frescoes, and the lakeside Château de Val. These sites demonstrate a range of architectural history, from 11th-century defensive ruins atop basalt peaks to Neo-Gothic restorations and Renaissance transformations of feudal strongholds.
