Basel's Historic Landmarks

Basel’s history is etched into its diverse architectural landscape, from the red sandstone and twin towers of the medieval Basler Münster to the ornate 16th-century Rathaus on Marktplatz. The city’s defensive past is preserved at the Spalentor, one of the three remaining city gates. As a Rhine-side city, its bridges are central to its identity, ranging from the historic Mittlere Brücke, first established in 1226, to modern engineering feats like the Three Countries Bridge and the multi-level Dreirosenbrücke.
