Historic Birkirkara

Birkirkara, one of Malta's oldest settlements, preserves significant engineering and religious landmarks from the 17th and 18th centuries. This selection centers on the Wignacourt Aqueduct and its ornamental arch, commissioned by the Order of Saint John to supply water to Valletta. The list also features the Baroque Parish Church of Saint Helen, famous for its massive bell, and the Renaissance-era Saint Mary's Parish Church. These sites, alongside local stone monuments, illustrate the architectural transition and historical growth of this central Maltese town.
