Capileira sits at 1,436 meters, the highest of the three villages in the Poqueira Gorge. This selection highlights the town's role as the primary base for Sierra Nevada expeditions, including routes to Mulhacén, the Iberian Peninsula’s highest peak. Mulhacén A

Mulhacén

Mulhacén, with an elevation of 3,479 metres, is the highest mountain in peninsular Spain and in all of the Iberian Peninsula.

Mirador Veleta y Mulhacén

A panoramic viewpoint located at the upper edge of the village, offering direct lines of sight to the two highest peaks in the Sierra Nevada range.

Iglesia Parroquial Nuestra Señora de la Cabeza

A 16th-century Mudéjar-style church built on the site of a former mosque. It houses an 18th-century Baroque altarpiece and an image of the Virgin Mary donated by the Catholic Monarchs.

An ethnological museum housed in a traditional building, showcasing Alpujarran life, tools, and local crafts. It is named after the 19th-century writer who documented his travels through the region.

A high-altitude mountain shelter situated at 2,500 meters on the southern slopes of Mulhacén. It provides year-round accommodation, meals, and essential weather information for mountaineers.
