Industrial Heritage

Esch-sur-Alzette, the heart of Luxembourg’s "Land of the Red Rocks," preserves the architectural legacy of the steel industry that defined the region for decades. This list highlights the industrial monuments of the Belval district, featuring two preserved 20th-century blast furnaces. It also includes cultural venues repurposed from historic structures, such as a former slaughterhouse and a furniture warehouse, alongside museums documenting the region's mining history and wartime resistance.

Blast furnace B

A preserved industrial monument within the Belval site, representing the peak of Luxembourg's 20th-century steel production. It remains a central landmark of the historic ARBED factory skyline.

Blast furnace A

Built in 1965, this 82-meter-tall structure is a centerpiece of the Belval industrial site. Visitors can climb to a viewing platform 40 meters above ground for panoramic views of the district and surrounding region.

Kulturfabrik Esch

A creative hub located in a municipal slaughterhouse dating from the late 19th century. The 4,500-square-meter complex hosts artist residencies, concerts, and exhibitions within its original brick industrial architecture.

Konschthal Esch

A contemporary art space housed in a former furniture store. The interior features raw concrete and industrial aesthetics across 2,400 square meters, designed for large-scale international exhibitions and experimental installations.

Musée National de la Résistance

Located in the city center, this museum traces Luxembourg's history during the Nazi occupation from 1940 to 1945. Exhibits focus on the Shoah, the local resistance movement, and worker strikes against forced conscription.

Grouwen a Feldbunn

A mining museum showcasing the history of iron ore extraction in the Minett region. It features a collection of narrow-gauge industrial locomotives and equipment used in the subterranean rail networks.
