Gangtok serves as the gateway to Sikkim, blending Tibetan Buddhist heritage with Himalayan mountain views. This selection includes the vehicle-free MG Marg and the historic Lal Bazar market. Spiritual highlights feature the 200-year-old Enchey Monastery and Thakurbari Temple. MG Marg

A vehicle-free, pedestrian-only boulevard lined with shops and restaurants. This central square serves as the city's social hub and is strictly maintained as a smoke-free and litter-free zone.

Entrance to Himalayan Zooogical Park

Sikkim's first zoo, situated at 1,780 meters. It houses rare species like the red panda, snow leopard, and Himalayan black bear in large, open-air natural habitats across 205 hectares.

Sikkim high court museum (frequently closed)

Housed in the historic bungalow of the first Chief Justice, this museum displays archival documents, judicial robes, and artifacts tracing the legal history of Sikkim since its monarchy period.

Enchey Monastery

A Nyingma sect monastery established in 1909 on a site blessed by the flying hermit, Lama Drupthob Karpo. It features traditional Tibetan murals and hosts the annual Detor Cham masked dances.

Damodar Ropeway

A 1-kilometer cable car system with three stations: Deorali, Namnang, and Tashiling. The double-cable zig-zag ropeway offers panoramic views of the city valley and Mount Kanchenjunga.

Ganesh Tok

A small Hindu temple located at 6,500 feet altitude. It features a narrow circular balcony that serves as an observation deck for views of Gangtok and the surrounding Himalayan peaks.

Lal Bazar

A multi-story market complex selling local organic produce, traditional Sikkimese handicrafts, and regional delicacies. It has served as the city's central trading hub since 1956.

Thakurbari Hindu Temple

One of the oldest Hindu temples in Gangtok, built in 1935 on land donated by the former Chogyal (King) of Sikkim. It is located in the heart of the town near MG Marg.
