Scenic Lakes and Ponds

This collection features diverse glacial and tectonic water bodies within Grand Teton National Park. It includes the massive Jackson Lake reservoir, enlarged by a 1911 dam, and smaller alpine tarns like Lake of the Crags and Ramshead Lake situated in high hanging canyons. Lower elevation sites like Swan Lake and Heron Pond provide critical habitats for trumpeter swans and great blue herons. From the shallow, clear waters of String Lake to the remote high-altitude Marion Lake on the Teton Crest Trail, these sites illustrate the region's complex hydrology.

String Lake

Shallow glacial lake known for its clear water and sandy bottom. It connects Leigh Lake to Jenny Lake and remains warmer than the deeper alpine waters nearby.

Wetland habitat near Colter Bay covered in lily pads. It serves as a frequent nesting and feeding site for trumpeter swans and other waterfowl.
