Regional Windmill Heritage
This collection features historic windmills across the Hauts-de-France region, specifically within the Nord and Pas-de-Calais departments. These structures include traditional wooden post mills in Hondschoote and brick tower mills across the Flemish plains. Representing centuries of agricultural history, some sites date back to 1560. Several mills remain functional, containing original internal machinery and wooden gears that demonstrate pre-industrial milling techniques used throughout the region.
Moulin d'Hofland
18th-century wooden post mill in Hondschoote. Rebuilt in 1773 on a brick foundation, it retains its original internal mechanism for grain grinding.
