Itu's Regional Heritage

Itu's heritage sites document the city's evolution from its 1610 foundation through the industrial era. The collection includes the Varvito Geological Park, featuring rare Ice Age sedimentary rock formations, and the 17th-century Igreja do Senhor Bom Jesus. Industrial history is represented by the Antiga Fábrica São Luiz, the state's first steam-powered textile mill. The historic center preserves colonial architecture alongside landmarks like the Cruzeiro de São Francisco and remnants of the FEPASA railway system.

Parque Geológico do Varvito

Established on a former quarry, this site features exposed layers of varve, a rare sedimentary rock formed by glacial cycles approximately 280 million years ago.

Igreja do Senhor Bom Jesus

Built on the site of Itu's original 1610 chapel, this church features a facade inspired by Rome's Church of the Gesu and houses significant religious artwork and altars.

Antiga Fábrica São Luiz

Inaugurated in 1869 as the first large-scale steam-powered textile factory in São Paulo state, this industrial heritage site now serves as a cultural and event space.

Cruzeiro de São Francisco

A historic stone cross located in the city center, representing the presence of the Franciscan Order and the religious foundations of the colonial settlement.

Hospital São Camilo
