Lakes & Waterfalls

This collection highlights the karst hydrography of Lika-Senj, centered on the UNESCO-listed Plitvice Lakes National Park and the Una River. It features a sequence of terraced lakes connected by travertine barriers and waterfalls, including the 78-meter Veliki slap. The list also includes the 25-meter Štrbački buk on the Una River, a significant tufa waterfall marking the border between Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Galovac

One of the Upper Lakes in Plitvice, reaching a depth of 25 meters. It is fed by water from Lake Batinovac and is notable for the 28-meter Galovački buk waterfall on its northern edge.

Lake Gradinsko

A shallow Upper Lake characterized by turquoise and milky-white colors caused by the accumulation of tufa. It is situated between Galovac and Lake Kozjak.

Gavanovac

Part of the Lower Lakes system, this lake is situated within a steep limestone canyon. It is known for the Great Cascades (Velike kaskade) that flow into it from Lake Milanovac.

Lake Kozjak

The largest and deepest lake in Plitvice National Park, serving as the transition between the Upper and Lower Lakes. Electric boats transport visitors across its 2.3-kilometer length.

Great Waterfall

The highest waterfall in Croatia, dropping 78 meters into the Plitvica Potok. Unlike other falls in the park formed by tufa barriers, this is created by the Plitvica River plunging over a limestone cliff.

Štrbački buk

Štrbački buk waterfall is a 25m high waterfall on the Una River. It is situated in Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Ciginovac

The second-highest lake in the Plitvice system, located at an altitude of 620 meters. It receives water from Prošćansko jezero through both surface falls and underground channels.

Prošćansko jezero

The highest and first lake in the Plitvice chain, fed by the Matica River. It spans 68 hectares and reaches depths of 37 meters, acting as the primary reservoir for the lake system.
