Big Bend National Park Essentials

The Window

A dramatic V-shaped notch in the Chisos Mountains rim that drains the Chisos Basin. The trail concludes at a pour-off point overlooking the desert floor.

Balanced Rock

A large volcanic boulder precariously perched atop two other rocks. Located at the end of the Grapevine Hills Trail, it demonstrates the effects of spheroidal weathering.

Embosomed with the high Chisos Mountains, the Basin has become a focal point of the park.

Hot Springs

Geothermal springs on the banks of the Rio Grande. These 105°F mineral waters are contained within the remains of a 1909 bathhouse.
