Wilderness Huts and Shelters

This collection features remote bothies and mountain shelters across the Scottish Highlands, ranging from coastal lookouts to deep glen refuges. Most are maintained by the Mountain Bothies Association and offer basic accommodation without electricity or running water. Highlights include former schoolhouses, converted coastguard stations, and historical hermitages, providing essential shelter for hikers traversing the Fisherfield Forest, the Cuillin, and the Cape Wrath Trail.

Coruisk Memorial Hut

Located on the shore of Loch Coruisk in the Cuillin, this hut is accessible by boat from Elgol or via a rugged hike over the 'Bad Step' rock feature.

A former cottage situated in a bay near Cape Wrath, offering a stone fireplace and white-walled rooms overlooking a secluded beach.

Shenavall Bothy

A classic stone bothy in the Fisherfield Forest, serving as a primary base for hikers climbing the remote 'Big Six' Munros.

A sturdy stone shelter situated on an ancient drove road in the Grey Corries, frequently used by mountaineers climbing Stob Coire Gaibhre.

A two-story stone cottage located at the head of a sea loch, accessible via a track from Kylestrome or by boat.

A remote hut once inhabited by a hermit for over 30 years. It features wall murals and sits on the rugged path toward Cape Wrath.

This unique bothy at Duag Bridge was once a functioning schoolhouse. It retains its original character with old desks and a blackboard.
