Grenoble’s heritage spans two millennia, from the 3rd-century Roman defensive walls to the innovative concrete architecture of the 20th century. The city’s history as the capital of the Dauphiné province is preserved in the 15th-century Palais du Parlement and the Gothic Église Saint-André. Medieval defensive structures like the Tour de l’Isle contrast with the 19th-century Bastille fortress overlooking the Isère. Modern landmarks include the Art Deco Garage Hélicoïdal and the 1925 Perret tower, the world's first reinforced concrete observation tower.
