Madaba's Sacred & Mosaic Wonders

Madaba is a historic Jordanian city renowned for its extensive collection of Byzantine-era mosaics and early Christian landmarks. The city features the 6th-century Madaba Map at Saint George Church and the Moses Memorial Church on the summit of Mount Nebo. Beyond its religious sites, the area includes the archaeological remains of the Burnt Palace and provides access to the hypersaline waters of the Dead Sea, the lowest point on Earth.

Saint George Church

This 19th-century Greek Orthodox church houses the Madaba Map, a 6th-century floor mosaic representing the oldest surviving cartographic depiction of the Holy Land and Jerusalem.

Located on the summit of Mount Nebo, this basilica protects the excavated remains of a 4th-century monastery and 6th-century Byzantine mosaics depicting hunting and pastoral scenes.

A 20th-century Roman Catholic church featuring an underground crypt with an ancient Moabitish well and a bell tower offering panoramic views of Madaba.

Madaba Museum

Set within several traditional houses, this museum displays 6th-century mosaics, folk costumes, and archaeological artifacts from the Roman and Byzantine periods.

Archaeological park II & Burnt Palace

This site contains the ruins of a 6th-century Byzantine residence destroyed by fire and the Church of the Martyrs, featuring well-preserved geometric and figurative floor mosaics.
